Search DeKalb County Criminal Dockets

DeKalb County criminal dockets start with a simple question: which court is holding the case? Felonies sit in Superior Court, misdemeanors and DUI in State Court Division A, traffic in Division B, and warrants and lower-court matters in Magistrate. Juvenile Court and the city courts run separate paths with their own clerks. Pull up the DeKalb County criminal docket for the right court using a case number or citation number first, then compare what the calendar says with what the documents say. A docket entry can show a charge and a hearing date without the underlying filing ever being opened. Sealed, restricted, or juvenile-protected records change what the public can see.

DeKalb Criminal Search Paths

DeKalb Odyssey offers Smart Search and Search Hearings for Superior, State A, and Magistrate events. The system needs cookies and JavaScript. A DeKalb session can time out after 60 seconds. Anyone can view events without an account. Document images and printing take registration, a Public Access with Documents request, and any listed charge. Georgia Courts E-Access and ResearchGA name the participating DeKalb State and Superior courts. Neither is a full open index of the county.

State Court Division B runs on a separate Benchmark host. You can search by All, Name, Case Number, Citation Number, Citation Vehicle Tag Number, or Drivers License Number. Then narrow by date, party, court type, division, and charge. Its example number, 2005 TR 000123, follows the DeKalb State B pattern. Do not carry it over to Superior Court. City courts keep their own traffic and ordinance paths. Juvenile Court offers no ordinary public name-search database, and Magistrate Court posts separate criminal and ordinance calendars.

What a Criminal Docket Shows

No single criminal docket schema covers DeKalb County. Odyssey, Benchmark, Superior arraignment calendars, Magistrate calendars, and the city citation pages each expose different layers of a case. Before reading anything into a status, confirm the court, division, case number, and setting date all line up. A Superior felony, a State Court accusation, and a municipal matter follow different roles and filing routes as well.

Treat each field as a label rather than a conclusion about a person. A charge entry is just a charge. A setting is only a scheduled event. A disposition is an outcome the clerk should confirm. The event view on screen may leave out the pleading, order, transcript, or certified copy entirely.

Case identityCourt, case type, division, and local number. State B's observed traffic example is 2005 TR 000123; Superior numbers can follow a different path.
Charge or accusationOffense label, degree, statute or count, and the charging instrument when the source publishes it.
People and rolesDefendant, State attorney, defense attorney, judge, solicitor, or other role shown for that court.
Hearing settingDate, time, courtroom, judge, hearing type, slot, and a remote or in-person marker when available.
Case postureArraignment, pretrial, motion, trial, plea, FTA, warrant, compliance, sentencing, or other local event label.
DispositionDismissal, plea result, conviction, sentence, or another closing entry. Confirm the source's definition and date.

DeKalb Criminal Arraignment Fields

A DeKalb Superior arraignment calendar lists the court and calendar type, a remote marker, the courthouse, date, time, courtroom, slot, and case number. Defendant information follows. It is grouped with custody or bond notes, charges and statutes, counsel, and the judge. Those labels describe the schema. The private values behind them are not reproduced here.

Remember that a calendar is a snapshot. Odyssey may hold a later event or filing. A DeKalb PDF can be an easier hearing list when a live screen comes up short. Check the source date against the newest DeKalb event, or confirm with the clerk.

Arraignment
A charge and plea setting, not the final outcome of the criminal case.
Slot

Bond or custody note
Published setting information, not a substitute for the current order.
Remote marker
A format notice that does not establish public participation rights.

The DeKalb Magistrate Court criminal-calendar page posts the court's own public calendars for lower-court criminal matters.

A separate magistrate calendar like that one matters. It shows why you must pick the issuing court first before treating a Superior or State search as complete.

Stages on a DeKalb County Criminal Docket

Criminal cases in DeKalb County begin with different kinds of entries. Superior Court explains that an unindicted matter may carry a D-number. That number lasts until the District Attorney files an indictment or accusation. A judge is assigned only after that filing. So an early number with no judge attached does not mean the case is silent. State Court Division A brings many misdemeanors by accusation. It also handles DUI and vehicular-homicide matters.

The sequence that follows is a working outline, not a script. Magistrate warrants and preliminary proceedings, municipal arraignments, specialty reviews, and bindovers can add events or shift the case along the way.

Docket flow: Charge Filed › Arraignment › Pretrial › Plea or Trial › Disposition › Sentencing

Superior Clerk materials say final dispositions are entered or available within 24 hours of the hearing date. That timing still does not promise every related document or correction shows up at once.

Which DeKalb Criminal Court Handles the Case

Match the offense level to the court label before you search. Superior Court is the felony layer. State Court Division A handles misdemeanors, DUI, and vehicular homicide. Division B runs traffic and citations on a separate platform. Magistrate Court takes warrants, first appearances, and preliminary hearings. It also takes certain ordinances. Juvenile and municipal courts keep their own youth and city dockets.

Joining a DeKalb specialty court does not erase the underlying case. Superior accountability and mental-health programs, State Court DUI Court, and Magistrate Misdemeanor Mental Health Court can add referral, compliance, or review settings to the docket, though they do not create a public treatment record. The DeKalb Magistrate Misdemeanor Mental Health Court page describes the program's purpose and how referrals reach it.

Which Court Holds Criminal Dockets

Criminal dockets in DeKalb County sit with more than one office. Felony records at the Superior Court level belong to the DeKalb County Clerk of Superior Court. That office sits at 556 North McDonough Street. State Division A also operates out of the main complex. State Division B traffic matters and Magistrate criminal or ordinance cases run through 3630 Camp Circle. A city citation starts with the city that issued it.

Online tools will not answer everything. The clerk counter and the PAT workflow fill the gap. The DeKalb Superior Clerk provides eight public terminals for scanning and access. Terminals are generally open during clerk hours of 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Bring photo identification, your DeKalb case number, and the notice. Rule 22 and courthouse security govern weapons, devices, and recording.

DeKalb Criminal Copy Requests

A docket event is one thing. A certified copy is another. If you need paper from the DeKalb criminal docket, the DeKalb Superior Clerk criminal page spells out what to send: full name, case number, date of birth, arrest charge, your contact details, and the copy type you want. Stick to what the form asks for.

Fees are posted in tiers. A plain copy runs $1 per page. Certification costs $2.50 for the first page, then $0.50 for each additional page, and card payments add a 2% plus $1 surcharge. Odyssey document access sits on a separate track, with a public-access role and clerk materials posted at $0.50 per page.

Some filings never reach the screen. When a DeKalb document is gated, old, or simply missing, work through a clerk counter, a phone call, PAT, or a written request. DeKalb State and Magistrate records live with a separate custodian. DeKalb State B runs on its own platform. So route each request by court and division.

The official criminal-access screen shows the office workflow, not a case file.

Public Access and Sealed Criminal Dockets

DeKalb County starts from openness. But statutes, court orders, privacy rules, redaction duties, and juvenile confidentiality can all narrow what a docket shows. Seeing a public DeKalb event does not entitle you to the document image behind it. Rule 21 and identifier protections can justify a restricted or abbreviated display. Never copy out full birth dates, Social Security numbers, account numbers, or private calendar values.

The Open Records Act has its own lane. It covers DeKalb County administrative records and data that already exists, not a fresh criminal report or a workaround past a seal. For sealed or gated material, go through the DeKalb court clerk, an Odyssey role, PAT, eCertification when eligible, or the court's own access process. And remember: a blank DeKalb juvenile result does not prove no proceeding exists.

Key Rules:

Georgia Uniform Superior Court Rule 21 sets the public-record baseline while permitting lawful limits on access.

Rule 21.6 and Rule 22 address protected identifiers and courtroom devices or recording, so public viewing is not an unrestricted right to copy or record.

O.C.G.A. §§50-18-70 through 50-18-75 governs written open-records requests, response timing, costs, exemptions, and enforcement for records within that law.

O.C.G.A. §35-3-37 and GBI guidance concern criminal-history restriction, which is different from a court seal.

The DeKalb Juvenile Court e-file notice doubles as an access warning. Its current public notice reports the e-file system is down. It points users back to the court's paper or clerk process instead.

Contact the Juvenile Clerk about DeKalb County courthouse procedures. Statutory confidentiality often limits what a criminal docket can show.

GBI Restrictions on DeKalb Criminal Dockets

A GBI criminal-history restriction is not a sealing order from a DeKalb County court. The two come from different worlds. The GBI runs a law-enforcement repository. A DeKalb court docket sits with a clerk. It answers to a court order, a statute, a redaction rule, or the ordinary rules of public access. That is why the sources can disagree. GBI guidance points questions about arrests after July 1, 2013 to the prosecutor. Earlier arrests go to the arresting agency. A DeKalb case question goes somewhere else. It belongs with the clerk of DeKalb Superior, State, Magistrate, Juvenile, or municipal court. Ask that office to confirm any FTA, warrant, sealed, restricted, or no-document label. And do not read a blank DeKalb docket result as a legal conclusion.
