Find DeKalb County Civil Dockets

Start your search with the right DeKalb County office, because DeKalb County civil dockets live in more than one place. Superior Court, State Court, Magistrate Court, and Probate each keep their own civil records, and each clerk's counter and portal work differently. A court plus a case number is the fastest route into any DeKalb County civil docket. Know what you are looking at, too. A live event view is not the same thing as a filed document or a certified copy. Newer civil and family cases usually must be e-filed. Older files, Probate matters, and a few exceptions still call for a clerk visit, an appointment, or the archive.

DeKalb County Civil E-Filing

Civil and family e-filing is mandatory in DeKalb Superior, and it runs through Georgia eFileGA. Courthouse Public Access Terminals can help with scanning and filing, per the DeKalb Superior Clerk. Using a PAT avoids the off-site $19 convenience fee listed in the clerk's published guidance. Filing fees still apply, and the 2% plus $1 card surcharge is separate.

Not everything goes through the portal. Adoptions, bond validations, ex parte motions, foreign judgments, open adoption, surrogacy, temporary protective orders, and termination-of-parental-rights matters are exceptions. The current DeKalb clerk instruction controls. DeKalb State Court civil filing also uses eFileGA. DeKalb State B runs its own platform for a different workflow. A filing, an event, and a document image can show up at different times. Hold onto acceptance or rejection notices.

The official DeKalb Superior Clerk civil page posts the paperless notice and the access path. That path connects eFileGA with courthouse help.

That screen shows the DeKalb filing channel, not a case. For fees, exceptions, and corrections, the current DeKalb clerk fee sheet and instructions govern.

What a Civil Docket Shows

A DeKalb civil docket runs filings, service events, motions, hearings, orders, and outcomes in order. What you see depends on where you look. DeKalb Odyssey may show events. A DeKalb State calendar may show a pretrial list. The clerk may hold a document image or certified judgment behind an account, fee, request, or counter. The same party name can show up in several divisions. Keep the court and case number with your search.

DeKalb State civil calendars split out case, parties, attorneys, and cause fields. An event may be nothing more than a hearing or filing. A cause label names the category in that DeKalb source. It is not a ruling on the merits.

DeKalb County Civil Pretrial Fields

The DeKalb State civil pretrial calendar lists court, judge or division, conference type, date, time, courtroom, case-number range, deadlines, and attendance language. Its body uses Case, Parties, Attorneys, and cause columns. Cause labels include general civil, auto-accident or personal-injury tort, and medical-malpractice tort.

Remember what it is. It is a schedule. It is not a full filing or judgment database. The DeKalb State Court page warns that listings can change or omit proceedings. When fields conflict, check the setting against DeKalb Odyssey, the case notice, and the clerk.

Pretrial conference
A case-preparation setting for readiness, deadlines, attendance, or settlement.
Cause
The civil category or label printed by the court's calendar or docket source.
Case range
A grouping that limits which case numbers appear in a posted list.
Continuance
A court-approved move of a setting. A calendar row alone does not authorize a new date.

Types of Civil Cases on the DeKalb County Docket

The case type decides both the custodian and the search vocabulary. DeKalb Superior materials cover general civil, family, divorce, title, and real-property matters. DeKalb State calendars show limited civil work. DeKalb Magistrate uses its own forms and calendars. DeKalb Probate stays separate even when an estate question starts with property or family.

  • Superior general civil, contract, property, title, and real-estate matters.
  • Superior domestic and family filings, including divorce and related orders.
  • State civil matters, including general civil, auto-accident or personal-injury tort, and medical-malpractice tort.
  • Magistrate civil claims, dispossessory matters, garnishment, and other limited proceedings.
  • Probate estates, guardianships, marriage licenses, and weapons-license records through the Probate Court.

A case label can be broader than the document you want. A DeKalb real-estate instrument is not a civil complaint. A family event may not open the filing. Ask the DeKalb clerk for the exact record layer.

DeKalb County Civil Tracks

Do not treat DeKalb State and DeKalb Magistrate as one shop. Magistrate claims generally fall at or below $15,000. Dispossessory and garnishment are among the proceedings. The dollar amount is only a routing clue. Subject matter, procedure, counterclaims, and relief can change the jurisdiction answer.

DeKalb Superior takes general or exclusive matters such as divorce, title, family, and major civil cases. DeKalb State Division A is the limited civil track. The DeKalb State and Magistrate Clerk keeps those filings. DeKalb Superior civil records belong to Debra E. DeBerry's office. Pair the DeKalb court with the case number every time.

The DeKalb Magistrate civil-calendar page splits civil calendar into categories and marks virtual or in-person where published.

Those labels separate a Magistrate event from a Superior or State filing. For a current setting, the clerk is still the source.

Settings and Hearings on Civil Dockets

A DeKalb County civil docket can list the same hearing in several places. You might see it in an Odyssey event, a DeKalb State calendar, or a Magistrate calendar. A judge's PDF, a mailed notice, or a clerk confirmation may list it too. Refresh them all. DeKalb State Court warns that calendar entries can change. They may leave proceedings out entirely.

Check a setting against the wider date controls on the DeKalb County court calendar. Conflicting dates? Call the DeKalb State and Magistrate Clerk at 404-371-2261. You can also try the DeKalb Superior records desk or the contact printed on your notice. An old event refuses to load? A public access terminal or the counter works better.

Read entries carefully. A reset is not a dismissal, and a pretrial calendar is not a judgment. Keep the newest notice, the newest event, and any written order you receive.

DeKalb County Civil Archives

Older DeKalb civil files don't always stay online. DeKalb Superior Archives notes that closed matters from 2012 and earlier may need warehouse retrieval. Anything pre-2011 is a likely archive request. The form itself asks plenty. Expect fields for requester contact, case number, case type, parties, document category, copies, payment, and mailing information.

Mail is slower but workable. Send the completed DeKalb form with an allowed money order or cashier's check. Add a self-addressed stamped envelope. The archive page sorts requests into final judgments, settlement agreements, certified trade names, and pre-1990 research or certification. The amounts shift with the date. To tell docket events apart from images and certified copies, use the DeKalb County court-records route.

Older matterWarehouse retrieval through Superior Archives
Final judgmentSeparate final-document charge
Settlement agreementRequest the specific document combination
Pre-1990 fileMoney order or cashier's check for listed charge

Eligible certified records can go electronic instead. Through eCertification, the DeKalb clerk reviews a request first, and an accepted requester then has six days to pay. One caution: a screen print or free event view is not a DeKalb eCertified copy.

Public Access to DeKalb County Civil Dockets

Civil court records in DeKalb County start from a broad public-record baseline. Access can still narrow. A statute, a court order, a privacy rule, a redaction duty, family protection, or a Probate rule can all limit what you see. Rule 21 and its identifier safeguards apply to DeKalb Superior access. An Odyssey event may be visible while the underlying image stays restricted. A public DeKalb calendar never licenses copying information that is off limits.

For administrative records, the DeKalb County Open Records route handles existing DeKalb records and data. Submit a written request to the custodian. Expect a three-business-day response framework, possible costs, and an exemption citation if something is withheld. Know its limits, though. It does not create a DeKalb civil docket report. Nor does it replace a clerk copy request or override a seal.

Key Rules:

Georgia Uniform Superior Court Rule 21 provides the public-access starting point for DeKalb Superior Court records, subject to lawful limits.

Rule 21.6 identifier protections support redaction or restricted treatment of sensitive information in public filings.

O.C.G.A. ยงยง50-18-70 through 50-18-75 supplies the Georgia Open Records Act framework for requests, costs, exemptions, and enforcement.

DeKalb Juvenile Court access information is separate from an ordinary DeKalb public civil search, so a missing result should be confirmed with the appropriate court.

DeKalb County Civil Filing Orders

DeKalb Probate Court offers no ordinary public case search. There is no single public case-search schema and no live county e-filing workflow for everyday lookups. The records office sits in the Judicial Tower. The appointment system asks you to pick a service, window, date, and time. Estate or guardianship requests belong with DeKalb Probate records staff at 404-371-2701. The Probate appointment calendar shows the official service-selection path. Use it to book a records visit.

DeKalb County civil court docket Probate Court records appointment access

No public case index exists here. An appointment control routes you to the records service instead.

DeKalb Superior civil and family filings treat the Vital Statistics Report as its own requirement or supporting record. It is not a docket entry. It is not proof of judgment. The current clerk page also posts dated 2026 standing-order materials. These include a DeKalb AI-use order for Division 5. Before filing, read the local order and checklist for your division.

So DeKalb civil research runs on two tracks. First locate the event through the right system. Then use the DeKalb custodian's process for whatever document, report, appointment, or order you actually need.
